ORBERA™ Intragastric Balloon

ORBERA™ Intragastric Balloon

The revolutionary new ORBERA™ Intragastric Balloon is now available at Synchrony Chicago Weight Loss. Recently approved by the FDA, this soft but durable silicone balloon is designed to help patients with obesity to lose weight and keep it off.

ORBERA™ is meant for the adult patient with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 to 40 (typically 25 to 100 lbs. overweight) who has previously tried conventional weight reduction programs and not achieved good results.

The stomach balloon is intended for use as part of the “ORBERA™ Managed Weight Loss System.” There are three parts to this comprehensive, non-surgical program:

ORBERA™ Intragastric Balloon Insertion

  1. In a non-surgical procedure under anesthesia, the deflated ORBERA™ balloon is inserted into the stomach using a thin endoscope, and then filled with saline to the size of a grapefruit. This usually takes around 20-30 minutes, and most people go home the same day.

  2. With the stomach balloon in place, a 12-month coaching program begins, including close monitoring and regular visits to your doctor’s office.

  3. At six months, the balloon is removed the same way it was inserted – it is deflated and then removed through a non-surgical procedure done under anesthesia.

With the balloon placed in the stomach, patients feel full and are only able to eat small meals. The coaching and monitoring are important to help patients lose weight quickly and safely.

The ORBERA™ gastric balloon is an FDA approved non-surgical solution for patients who have tried diet and exercise or pharmaceutical interventions without significant or lasting success, or who have decided not to undergo surgical weight loss procedures.

Weight loss in U.S. clinical trials with ORBERA™ have shown 3.1 times better results than diet and exercise alone within six months. It’s a safe, effective weight loss solution, and more than 220,000 have been placed worldwide and the results evaluated in over 230 published papers.

If you are 25-100 pounds overweight, you might qualify for ORBERA™ balloon implantation.
